The Obama Victory and Why. He Sent More Preachers

Obama. The airwaves, web pages and printed papers are overloaded with pundit pontifications as to why Mitt Romney lost the election and why television shows won. The Monday morning quarterbacking by these professional political wonks is always 100 percent correct. It’s fascinating to observe these pundits explain how the winner and his campaign were geniuses and their message carried a mandate of the masses.

It’s also fascinating to watch who nuzzles up to whom afterward an election.

Innocent little one page posting at the Barack Obama website

But believe it or not, if you wade past the pundits and what has been said about why Obama won, it is an innocent little one page posting at the Barack Obama website that explains it all. It’s simple really. And it is something both Democrats and Republicans need to understand.

“Too much post-election analysis has focused on demographics voter and campaign mechanics, leaving Democrats in danger of drawing the wrong lessons from our electoral success.”

Obama talk selfThat quote is from Rahm Emanuel’s opinion piece in the Washington Post Editorial titled, “How to rebuild America”. Rahm Emanuel is former White House Chief of Staff under Obama and is currently the mayor of Chicago.

“Demographics alone are not destiny. There is nothing in this year’s election returns that guarantees Democrats a permanent majority in the years to come,” Emanuel adds and continues on to say,

“But we cannot expect Republicans to cede the economic argument so readily, or to fall so far short on campaign mechanics, the next time around.”

Obama Sent The Preachers

While most will probably focus on the demographic portion of Rahm Emanuel’s op/ed piece or credit messaging for the Obama win, the key to success was campaign mechanics and that brings me back to “an innocent little one page posting at the Barack Obama website

“Between April 2011 and November 2012, you built the largest grassroots campaign in history to re-elect President Obama.”

That’s from the Barack Obama web site and in one sentence says it all. It’s based off of a Biblical principle the Apostle Paul expressed in the Book of Romans

“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Romans 10:14

Obama and his campaign got more “preachers” out and about than the Republicans did. As the Obama web site says, “largest grassroots campaign in history”.

The site goes on to list out 813 field offices, 10,000 neighborhood teams and 2.2 million volunteers that made over 150 million phone calls and doors knocked on.

That’s a lot of preachers preaching the word of Obama to the masses.

There is a basic universal truth of direct sales. See more people and get more sales. It applies to selling canister vacuum cleaners, automobile insurance, yellow pages or even the President of the United States.

I was in television and film production for almost 30 years, owning my own business for 17 of those years, producing television shows and videos. Part of my business included what’s known as “industrial videos”. These videos could be strictly for internal purposes such as training and education of employees and staff. Other industrial videos were used for sales and marketing purposes. Here is my one sales line whenever called by a potential customer for such a video.

“The best thing is to actually be there. The next best thing to being there is a video”

Obama and his staff were the best at “being there”.

“….and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher”.

Whoever understands this and is best at getting their word out on a one on one basis will be elected 2016 President.

What are your thoughts and opinions about the Obama victory? Do you agree with Rahm Emanuel that too much emphasis is placed on demographics or did Obama win because he sent out more, “preachers”?  Post your comments below.
